Wholistic Software License Position Solution [A Case Study]

CUSTOMER CHALLENGE:

InSequence recently delivered a Department of Defense (DoD) customer a wholistic solution for their software license positions needs. See how below!

A DoD customer had low confidence in their current license position and compliance due to disconnected systems and manual processes. Vendor software compliance such as Oracle, IBM, and Microsoft were particularly concerning due to the complexity of licensing terms and the high cost of licenses. This customer started looking for a wholistic solution.

APPROACH:

InSequence brought our proven methodologies and solutions to this customer. Flexera FlexNet Manager and Data Platform were installed, configured, and integrated into the customer environment. These tools were then optimized for this specific customers needs and challenges.

InSequence integrated the Flexera tools with Tanium Asset Management, Microsoft System Configuration Manager (SCCM), Azure Cloud, and Office365.

As a result of this work, the customers data was able to help InSequence use the Flexera tools to start collecting all necessary license information, normalize the data, analyze usage and entitlements, and provide recommendations to optimize usage and spend.

RESULTS:

As a result of InSequence efforts, this customer could not manage 60% of the annual software spend (IBM, MS, Oracle, other small vendors) bringing greater confidence in compliance. Specific benefits included:

  1. 92% reduction in Oracle processor license cost
  2. 20% reduction in Microsoft Server license cost
  3. Reduction in manual data collection for risk, cost, and usage assessment
  4. License position calculation effort reduced from weeks to minutes

CONCLUSION:

Through InSequence’s proven methodologies and engineering mindset, this customer was able to be more confident in their current license positions as well as their ability to manage and audit their license position in the future.
